ABOUT FILMING THE SPOKEN WORD WORKSHOP
Led by filmmaker-in-residence Ephraim Asili and local poet and founder of The Bloomfield House, Teajai Travis, this free workshop will interactively explore the intersection of poetry and film. Inspired by the process of Asili’s current film project, participants will film each other using a DSLR camera as they recite poetry in different locations in the downtown core. The workshop will focus on compositional framing, mise en scène, lens focus and light. The acquired footage will be played back on a projector setup at Artcite and later provided to the participants as a DVD copy. Participants are encouraged to stay for Ephraim’s screening after the workshop at 8PM.
The residency and associated public programming are made possible by Momentum Film and Video Collective and co-presented with Media City Film Festival. The organizations acknowledge generous support from the City of Windsor ACHF and the Canada Council for the Arts.
The Filming the Spoken Word Workshop and Screening are co-sponsored by Artcite Inc. and presented in partnership with the Bloomfield House. The Outdoor Screening in Detroit is presented in partnership with Mothlight Microcinema, Corktown Cinema and Dabls MBAD African Bead Museum.
